Store bought baby formula should NOT be used long term, they contain high iron which can cause liver and kidney failure. If you want to keep feeding formula after 3 months of age you need to use LOW IRON formula, you can purchase low iron formula and all your small monkey needs from any recommended store or from us.

The Dangers of IRON

A medical condition known as hemochromatosis (HC), also known as iron storage disease, is characterized by excessive iron accumulation in the tissues. Due to the feeding of human infant baby formula and other human baby items that are iron fortified for human babies, it is frequent in marmoset and tamarin monkeys and is a serious issue. In the wild, primates DO NOT process iron. The tannins in all of the water sources act as a binding agent, preventing the need for their organs to digest the water. Since they do not consume a diet high in tannins at home, the extra iron is stored in all of their organs, particularly the liver, heart, and pancreas.

The extra iron may poison these organs, causing symptoms to spread throughout the body, such as joint and stomach pain, which may progress to life-threatening illnesses and organ failure.

Do’s and Don’ts

NO ONIONS, GARLIC, CHOCOLATE, CANDY, SPICY FOODS, NO RAW POTATO OF ANY KIND, NO RAW EGG.
READ ALL THE LABELS ONION AND GARLIC POWDER IS IN A LOT OF FOODS INCLUDING BABY AND TODDLER FOODS.
NO SUGAR FREE PRODUCTS, THEY CONTAIN DANGEROUS ARTIFICIAL SWEETNERS LIKE ASPARTAME OR XYLITOL BOTH ARE DEADLY TO MONKEYS..

They NEED to eat Callitrichid diet ( marmoset diet) either the powder or the can. I think the powder is easier to disguise, because it can be mixed in things like yogurt and fruit gumivore. Most of them don’t like the can, it looks like dogfood and smells gross.
They also NEED D3 and calcium supplements, I use Bone Defense.
Probiotics are also important, you can use live culture yogurt like activia or the powder probiotics.
 Also primate vitamins

They can have pretty much any fruit ( not much citrus, it’s very acidic and can cause mouth ulcers and stomach issues) veggies (limit tomato also acidic), (WASH THOROUGHLY REMOVE ALL STEMS, SEEDS AND PITS) cut into small pieces.pasta, rice, cooked eggs, chicken, fish, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese, shrimp, cereal, nuts, gumivore, crickets, mealworms.

They can eat most foods that you eat, just avoid the things I have listed.
